IT Recruitment Activity in India’s Tech Industry Drops 6.5% in October 2022


India’s tech industry saw a 6.5% decline in IT hiring activity in October 2022 compared to the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

Overall industry hiring was down 7.69% in October 2022 compared to September 2022.

Of the total tech industry hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 40.23% share in October 2022, registering a 0.26% increase from the average share of the last three months.

Top Five Job Classifications in Indian Tech Industry IT Recruitment Activity in October 2022

Out of the total number of job titles, the top five roles accounted for 99.7% of the Indian tech industry’s overall IT recruitment activity in October 2022.

1) Software and web developers, programmers and testers recorded a share of 70.14% in October 2022, registering a decrease of 26.36% compared to the previous month.

2) Computer and information analysts claimed a share of 11.34%, down 29.34% from the previous month.

3) Database and network administrators and architects held an 11.13% share, down 37.97% from September 2022.

4) IT support specialists captured a 4% share, down 41.44% from the prior month.

Top Five Tech Companies in IT Recruitment Activity in India in October 2022

The top five companies, by number of jobs tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 16.49% in the share of the Indian tech industry’s overall IT recruitment activity in October 2022 compared to September 2022.

Accenture posted 2,756 IT jobs in October 2022 and saw a decline of 17.85% from the previous month, followed by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone with 535 jobs and a decline of 33.29%. Wipro with 419 IT jobs and Genpact with 264 jobs, recorded a growth of 49.64% and a decline of 25.63% respectively, while Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson recorded a decline of 6.45% with 261 vacancies in October 2022.

Mid-Level Job Openings Dominate in October 2022

Mid-level jobs held a share of 50.12%, down 31.55% from September 2022. Junior-level positions, with a share of 43.56%, saw a decline of 26.22 % compared to the previous month.

In third place were entry-level vacancies with 5.12% market share, down 45.8% from September 2022, while senior vacancies accounted for 1.2%, registering a monthly decrease of 22.69%.
