VARANASI : The Hindu University of Benares, an institution of eminence under the IoE initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, has introduced a new scholarship program to promote and motivate international students. The system of government “Scholarship for international students”, also aims to attract foreign students through this program. Under the scheme, foreign students will receive Rs. 6000 per month which will be renewed annually on the basis of satisfactory performance. In case a student already receives a scholarship of a lower value, he/she will be entitled to receive the difference. The decision to launch a “Scholarship for International Students” was taken during the meeting of the Board of Trustees of the institution of Eminence, BHU under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sudhir K Jain.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Sudhir K Jain said making BHU one of the best universities in the world is what the university fraternity should strive for. This scholarship program is one of many measures taken to achieve this goal. The university has set up a three-member committee for the smooth implementation and monitoring of the program. All applications under the program must be submitted to the Institution of Eminence Cell of BHU.
Located in the ancient city of Varanasi, a symbol of knowledge, education and culture for centuries, the Hindu University of Benares has the unique distinction of offering a wide range of programs relating to all branches of humanities, social sciences, medicine, technology, science, fine arts and performing arts, making it truly the capital of knowledge. The university attracts hundreds of international students every year who gain admission in various disciplines of agricultural sciences, arts, social sciences, performing arts, visual arts, law, business and undergraduate sciences, at postgraduate and doctoral level. and Degree Courses. The total intake of foreign students represents up to 15% of the total number of places. These seats are supernumerary in nature. Currently, 431 students from nearly 40 countries are enrolled at the Hindu University of Benares. These include 261 male students and 170 female students from the United States, Brazil, France, Russia, Ireland, Australia, Yemen, Iran, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Mauritius, from Sri Lanka, South Korea, Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia, among others. The program is expected to attract more international students to BHU. Furthermore, it is also in the spirit of the National Education Policy 2020 which places greater emphasis on the internationalization of the Indian education system, by having more foreign students on Indian campuses.
